The days and days that drag on

Life has been hustling and bustling as of late. Unfortunately, this barrage of work has been quite mundane, but nonetheless, I have finally adjusted to it all.

What has been almost sucking the poor dear life out of me this semester is my J325 class: Black and White Film Photography. I have picked up that 35mm and slapped on a nifty fifty lens. I have been reeling film. I have been getting my hands dirty in chemicals processing and printing. And reprinting.

I truly appreciate digital now.

As soon as I get some time, I'll scan in some of my film negatives and share it with the world. It's quite an interesting process. It has definitely changed my style of shooting. I'm very much used to shooting, oh say... at least 100 photos in an hour (that's like a bare minimum), but with film, it takes me sometimes a whole hour or even two just to take 32 shots.

SIGH!

Oh, and that's not accounting for the time it takes to process the film and hand print it.

Plan A

Logo samples I created for our intern team, Plan A:

I surrendered a summer full of sleeping late, eating at irregular hours, and going out on a nightly basis for a peek at existence in the "real world."

Welcome to corporate life: waking up at 6:50 a.m. (giving me just enough time to hit snooze once... or twice.)

Jabbing through morning rush hour traffic only to realize you can never leave too early.

Sitting at a desk or some sort of chair about 90% of your day drinking free coffee from the break rooms, resulting in ridiculous weight gain.

Going home at 5 p.m. (or later) and sitting in even more traffic.

Falling asleep circa midnight while all the world is still whirring about you.

It all seems a bit scary.

Scripty Fonts

I sometimes consider myself a font snob because I have a high standard for how fonts are used, either singularly or together. Working in the wedding photography industry, it appears that script fonts are a popular trend when it comes to decorating websites, albums, and tagging photos on the web in general. Something about the cursive writing just screams romanticism, love, and happily ever after. It is also ridiculously hard to read, not to mention ugly in big blocks of text. What was once intended to look pretty, and it does (when used in moderation), becomes illegible and just plain annoying. Staring at it is like hearing fingernails scratching on a chalkboard. Well, at least to me.

End of a Term

Last day of move out. Empty living room.

Empty dorm room. My bed is on the left.

A trip to Ikea at the beginning of the school year. These somehow managed to fail to rotate. And yes, I am wearing my high school letterman. And yes, it is purple.

Dorm food sucks. They do, however, offer certain ingredients at times for you to make your own slightly more appealing meals. Meet a turkey and ham sandwich with tomatoes and cucumbers with honey mustard on rye bread!

I am the master at salads. This was during spring break at home, though.

After coming back from a group lunch, we found our side of the office to be tee-pee'd with toilet paper at my internship.

Studying during finals, about 300 people ran through the study lounge at 2 a.m. in their underwear.

Houston skyline.

The spring 2008 semester has officially ended for me and thus concludes approximately half of my college career. I can't say this school year has been incredibly memorable but I do remember it, nonetheless. It's been fun.

Ailie Chang

Did a few portraits of the beautiful Miss Chang not too long ago. Here are a couple of shots:

Competitive Sports

You'll more than likely see me bumming in front of a computer than out playing sports on any day, guaranteed. So when my friend asked me to join his intramural soccer team (because they needed girls, badly) I said yes because, well, ever since hitting the two decade mark my metabolism has noticeably dropped. If I continue to drone on like this, typing and clicking my life away before my monitor, things could end badly for me.

So I strapped on some running shoes, a t-shirt and a pair of basketball shorts (that you usually won't see me in unless I'm sleeping) and hopped on out to the gym for a game of indoor soccer. Sadly, we lost, but it was not in vain. And surprisingly, I had a lot of fun. And of course, what would a sports team be without an obligatory team photo:

And a few action shots:

Yours truly standing around when our goalie falls to the ground. I know, very useless.

Doing a little more.

Kurosaki Ichigo

So my latest obsession comes in the form of a 15-year-old orange headed shinigami substitute, otherwise known as Kurosaki Ichigo from the manga/anime Bleach.

Now I'm not one to usually watch long, never ending animes (quite simply because, well, they never end), but this show caught me rather off guard. It was action packed from episode one, leading me to spend much of my spring break watching approximately 80 episodes. I am currently on 152 of 165 that is released so far, and this show is nowhere near it's end.

And as I am drawing near the end of my pot of episodes and closer to having to wait for weekly updates instead of being able to sit down and watch several in one sitting, I am feeling rather sad about it. However, I will gain back several hours each night to do things other than sit in front of the computer screen, or at least sit in front of the computer screen and doing something more productive.
